President Cup: Golf Star, Akakasiaka; Eyes Glo Largesse as Pros Tee Off
Nigeria’s most celebrated professional golf player, Peter Akakasiaka, has said he is sure of lifting the senior tour category of the President Cup Golf Championship which teed off at the IBB International Golf and Country Club Abuja, on Tuesday, December 13.

The first day of the competition featured a full field of top rated players including Ghanaian sensation Emos Korblah, Nigeria’s best ranked professional golfer Mike Ubi of Air Assault Golf Club in Port Harcourt, Umoh Edet, Dominic Andrew and Martin Odoh all battling with other top golfers from Nigeria, Ghana, Senegal and Togo for the N10million naira prize money in a 72-hole course.
Akakasiaka who dominated the Nigerian and some African professional tour scenes in the late 70s and early 80s said he was delighted to be teeing off at the prestigious event now, particularly with the involvement of Globacom as the major sponsor.
“It is great to be here. I believe the level of corporate support that the President Cup has gotten has eventually upped the pedigree of the event and a lot of players are really looking forward to winning the tournament.”
Akakasiaka who is competing in the Senior Tour category would have other top stars to compete with like, Bello Seibidor, Tony Uduimoh, Fred Appah and Jacob Omoruah.
The President Cup is staged by the Nigeria Golf Federation and hosted this year at the IBB International Golf and Country Club Abuja from Dec 12 to 18.
Nigeria top communication company Globacom is the major sponsor of this year’s edition of the President Cup while event is also supported by Ogun state government, Federal Capital Territory, Bolingo Holdings, Air Nigeria, Nicon Luxury and Sheraton hotel and Towers.
