Globacom has won four awards at the 8th edition of the Titan of Tech Conference and Awards held on Friday, April 12, at the Civic Centre, Lagos. Globacom Chairman, Dr. Mike Adenuga,Jr (GCON), got the highest honour of Lifetime Achievement Award for being the number one indigenous contributor and acknowledged game-changer in the telecommunications sector, who broke the oligarchic convention through Per Second Billing for the benefit of mankind. Globacom also bagged the Transformational Company of the Year Award.
Globacom’s Executive Director, Legal Services, Gladys Talabi, and Director, Customer Care, Maria Svensson, were among the fourteen women who bagged the Most Influential Women in ICT Awards at the event. The four awards won by Globacom at the event were the highest number won by any organisation.
Speaking earlier on the theme of the event, “Broadband, Data Centres and the Quest for Inclusive Society”, Engr Ernest Ndukwe who is currently the Chairman, Presidential Committee on Broadband Penetration, urged every Nigerian to be involved in Information Technology, describing it as the tool for engagement now and in the future.
He called on state governments to give telecoms operators right of way to lay more optic fibre highways in the country and concluded that access meant being connected to the internet at the right time, right place and right price.
Engr Ndukwe congratulated Globacom for the recognition which he described as well deserved considering that the company was started from scratch by an indigene and sustained and improved upon in the last ten years.
