As Nigeria commemorates its 58th Independence Anniversary on Monday, telecommunications giant, Globacom, has paid tribute to the service of the country’s founding fathers.
The network celebrated the undeniable sacrifices of the nation’s heroes past including the great sage, Chief Obafemi Awolowo; the first prime minister, astute leader and scholar, Sir Abubakar Tafawa Balewa, and the first President, Dr. Nnamdi Azikiwe who is fondly referenced as the father of Nigerian nationalism.
“The likes of Awolowo, Balewa and Azikiwe were men of integrity , sacrifice and selflessness who believed in one indivisible and economically prosperous Nigeria”, the company noted, adding: “These men, along with many others like them, set the mould for the future of the nation as giant of Africa, with a high literacy level, bubbling economy, corruption-free society.”
Globacom urged current Nigerian leaders to emulate the solid moral foundation and visionary direction of these great leaders of yesteryear while encouraging the populace as well as corporate organisations to eschew bigotry and ethnicity and unite in order to achieve the aforementioned ideals.
Said Globacom, “We should rise above our diverse national issues, and rather use them as stepping stones to move the country to the level of first-world countries, just like Asian tiger nations who went through rapid industrialisation to become industrial and economic destinations today.”
The total telecommunications solutions provider felicitated with the various tiers of government and Nigerians across the nation whose contributions and support culminated in consolidating the gains the country has made in its drive towards development.
“We, as an indigenous telecoms firm, will continue to uphold national ideals in our operations by providing jobs for Nigerians and building the kind of telecoms firm that Nigerians all over the world would be proud of,” Globacom promised.
