Glo now title sponsor of Nigeria Premier League

Globacom has emerged as the title sponsor of the Nigeria Professional Football League as it signed a three-year contract worth One Billion, Eight Hundred and Ninety Six Million, Seven Hundred and Thirty Thousand Naira with the League Management Company (LMC) in Lagos on Monday.

Mr. Mohamed Jameel, Globacom’s Group Chief Operating Officer, said Globacom was delighted to return as the title sponsor of the Professional Football League in Nigeria.

He said that as the title sponsor, Globacom would give maximum support to the administrators of the league in their efforts to develop talents for Nigerian football and make the league attractive. He disclosed that Globacom’s primary reason for sponsoring the league “is to develop Nigerian football”.

“Today, we are witnessing the appointment of Globacom as the title sponsor of the Glo Premier League. We thank the Honourable Minister of Sports, Mallam Bolaji Abdulahi for his efforts to resolve all the issues surrounding the title sponsorship. We also thank members of the League Management Company (LMC) for all the significant strides they are making to develop the Nigerian professional football league”, said Mr. Jameel.

Hon Nduka Irabor led the LMC members to the meeting as its Chairman. Other members of the LMC in attendance were the Chairman of Lagos Football Association, Mr. Seyi Akinwunmi; Mr. Sheu Dikko and Alhaji Salihu Abubakar.

The LMC Chairman said he was delighted to see this day. He thanked the management of Globacom and members of the LMC for their patience in the interest of Nigerian football league. Hon. Irabor described the event as a new beginning for the Nigerian football league.

“This ceremony would have been held weeks back but both parties demonstrated admirable integrity and honesty in the process of fine-tuning the details of the contract which was agreed to in principle a few weeks ago. I pray that we will hand over a structure that will promote the interest of Nigerian football”, said the LMC Chairman.

Hon Irabor said with this start, Nigerians would soon see the sanity that had been restored in Nigerian football.

He acknowledged the passion and zeal that Globacom had exhibited in supporting Nigerian football and assured that the telecoms giant would get true value for its sponsorship.
