Got Questions?
Recovery by Data is a feature on the Glo Borrow Me Credit service that allows Globacom to recover outstanding borrowed airtime or data from a subscriber's purchased data plans, in addition to recovery from airtime recharge. This means customers who borrow airtime or data can repay their loan when they recharge airtime or purchase data bundles.
The solution was introduced to improve loan recovery and ensure that outstanding Borrow Me Credit loans are repaid faster. It allows recovery to occur through multiple channels including: Airtime Recharge and Purchased Data bundles
When a subscriber has an outstanding Borrow Me Credit loan, the system automatically checks the subscriber's account. If the subscriber purchases a new data plan, the system may deduct part or all of the data balance equivalent to the outstanding loan value. The recovered amount is converted into the naira/kobo value equivalent of the outstanding debt.
Recovery from data may occur in the following situations:
- When the subscriber purchases a new data bundle.
- When a recovery request is triggered by the system for outstanding Borrow Me Credit loans after 72 hours.
Yes. Recovery by Data does not replace airtime recovery. Repayment can occur through Airtime Recharge and Purchased data bundles. The system will recover the outstanding loan from whichever balance becomes available first.
The system follows these rules when selecting the data plan for recovery:
- Rule 1 – Active Plan: The system will debit the data plan that is active at the time of recovery.
- Rule 2 – Highest Data Volume:If the subscriber has multiple active plans, the system will debit the plan with the highest available data volume.
- Rule 3 – Expiry Priority: If two or more plans have the same available data volume, the system will debit the plan that will expire first.
- Rule 4 – Random Selection: If the plans have equal volume and identical expiry periods, the system will randomly select one plan for deduction.
The Main Data is prioritized for recovery on the network before any other data category.
To ensure subscribers still have data available for browsing, 70MB of the available data bundle will not be used for recovery and will remain in the account for the customer's personal use. This means that even if the customer still has an outstanding loan balance, the system will always retain 70MB of data for the customer's use.
Yes. If the available data is not sufficient to fully recover the outstanding loan, the system will deduct the maximum allowed amount (retaining 70MB for the customer's use) and leave the remaining loan balance outstanding. The remaining balance will be recovered when the subscriber recharges airtime or purchases another data bundle.
Yes. Recovery may occur multiple times until the full outstanding loan amount is repaid. This may happen whenever the subscriber purchases data, recharges airtime, or has sufficient data balance.
If a subscriber does not have an active data plan, recovery will not occur from data. Recovery will then occur when the subscriber recharges airtime or purchases a new data bundle.
Yes. If a subscriber disputes a transaction, Customer Care should: 1. Check the CDR Query system. 2. Verify the transaction on the HSI portal. 3. Confirm outstanding balance on the BMC portal. 4. Escalate to the technical team if further investigation is required.
Yes. Subscribers must fully repay their outstanding Borrow Me loan before they can borrow again.
